Dr. Steven Cload
I am often asked where I am from as the moment I speak it's fairly obvious I am not from these parts. Here is a little about me.
I grew up in Torquay, a small traditional seaside town in the South West of England which explains the accent and the ability to dodge low flying seagulls. I moved to Manchester to attend the Dental program at the University of Manchester in 1985 and graduated in1989 winning the Alpha Omega award for Restorative Dentistry.
How did I end up in Canada? In 1991 with my Canadian wife Juliet (no two ways about it, Canadian girls sure are cute), I immigrated to Canada to provide dental care to the wonderful Inuit people of the Kitikmeot region of the N.W.T. in the Canadian Arctic, as a flying dentist. After three years of landing in extremely isolated communities in small prop planes, freezing my tush and seeing some of the most beautiful scenery in the world we moved “south” to Yellowknife, the N.W.T. capital.
In 1996 we moved further south to Calgary and opened my own practice with the goal of creating a practice where patients feel comfortable, know they are being listened to, know they are receiving quality care and yes actually have fun! After 22 years of a wonderful life and practice we decided to move to beautiful Victoria. I’ve almost gone full circle living at the seaside again and dodging seagulls.
I have made an ongoing commitment to lifelong learning so I can provide my patients with the most up to date materials, technology and techniques. I am a Fellow of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (2012 Las Vegas) completing multiple programs in Cosmetic Dentistry, Implant placement, full mouth smile and bite rehabilitation and the treatment of TMJ utilising Neuromuscular dentistry.
In my spare time, I love nothing more than spending time with my wife and two daughters. My daughters are now grown up but we still love being together. One of our biggest pleasures is traveling as a family, both back to England and our visits to six of the seven continents. I lived in the Arctic but am yet to visit Antarctica. In my spare time I love to practice yoga, cycle, paint and try to play the guitar. Not having any rhythm means Eric Clapton has nothing to worry about! Now I have moved to Victoria I am attempting to paddle board as much as possible.
